Pctel789 install problem not found elsewhere.

I installed Mepis 2004.b5. Using Linux 2.4.26. I have a Pctel789 modem. It used to install fine with Mepis 2003 using kernel 2.4.22. Now I am having problems that, so far, everything I have tried doesn't seem to work.

When I install it, this is what I get:

root@0[pctel-0.9.7-9]# ./setup
checking for running kernel version...2.4.26
checking for ptserial...ptserial-2.4.7.c
checking for gcc...3.3.3

I type in "pct789" and it then says that it is installed.

Then when I do "insmod -f pctel" this is what I get:

root@0[pctel-0.9.7-9]# insmod -f pctel

/lib/modules/2.4.26/pctel.o:
Hint: You are trying to load a module without a GPL compatible license
and it has unresolved symbols. The module may be trying to access
GPLONLY symbols but the problem is more likely to be a coding or
user error. Contact the module supplier for assistance, only they
can help you.

root@0[pctel-0.9.7-9]#

I have tried it logged in as user and typing "su" with the same results.

Hopefully someone has the answer. I'm running out of hair to pull out.
:D

Thanks for taking time to read this.

Mike
