Officejet 7410 Doueble Sided Scanning
 

I have installed a Officjet 7410 (wireless network) and I can use practically all features. What doesn't work are

a) scanning a double sided original
b) scanning a whole bunch of (preferrably double sided) pages into one pdf or ps file

Can anybody help?

In the meantime I got a little bit further. I have software that allows to convert jpg files into pdf files and also allows to concatenate several pdf files into one file. These are just programs that run from the command line, which is very convenient.

What doesn't work is the double-sided scanning of a >1 sheets from the ADF. The scanner "forgets to eject teh first sheet and thus oevr and over scans the same page. very stupid and probably only a little thing.

The whole software I use is downloaded from an HP Linux site residing at sourceforge. I am not a programmer and thus cannot fix this thing on my own.

Well, I was hoping for some answers and not for more questions. The programs I use for working with pdf files and for converting image files are pdftk and sam2p, which are available on the web.

Assuming that my whole network (wired and wireless) is running via ethernet, I believe that the printer is also connected this way. For my other printer (a b/w laser printer) I have bought a wireless print server that can simply be plugged into the parallel port.

We are still using Windows 98 from a laptop, but that one can also use the wireless printers. For us this was the easiest way to integrate and share all resources.

The drivers for the Officejet are hpijs and hplip. Just look for this stuff on the web and you will find it.

PS: I am not an expert with linux or windows or so and I always need a little "trial and error", but with some pragmatism things should work just great.

I have been experimenting with scanning large documents using the officejet 7140xi.

The copy function supports double sided-sources but I cannot see any way to scan double sided. This is frustrating as I have to scan all the odd pages first and then turn over to get the even pages. Then mess about fixing them in the correct order afterwards.

I don't have a problem scanning multiple pages but im using the windows software to do this. However it is still a pain as it misses about 10% of the pages and I have to scan those manually.

1) XSANE allows double sided scanning. Just turn it on. However, it has a bug (see above)
2) You could scan odd pages single sided with naming increment of 2 starting at 1
3) You could scan even pages single sided with naming increment of 2 starting at 2
4) You end up with files named line page-001.jpg page-002.jpg ...
5) pdf all of them, then pdftk page-*.pdf cat output document.pdf

so easy.
