Window Shadows

Is there any way on linux to give windows a shadow like on a Mac or windows. It gives it that polished finish i think.

I am guessing you mean linux. But shadows for what exactly? Icons? iDesk does shadows.

Shadows for the windows.

One way of doing it is running X.org 6.8.x to get access to the new Composite extension, and then run a window manager with support for it (or simply use xcompmgr but the result is usually less than pleasing). I think Metacity in Gnome 2.8 has built-in Composite support.
