Question How to edit dconf file (dconf-editor actually can't) ?

hello all
In accordance to my constant problems with mate panel and disappearing mint menu on debian I'd like to manually tweak dconf file from time to time (just remove mint menu from panel). But surprisingly dconf-editor doesn't allow me to do this. It allows to edit existing entries only. So my question is: is there any way to edit dconf file without any limitations?

please show us some code, and more info generally (read the first link in my signature).

also, maybe you would like to explain your problems with mint menu - maybe there's a better solution.

or, can't you just remove the menu from the panel by right-click => preferences?

Hi
I cannot show any code since the problem is not connected to coding
There is no way to remove specific applet from panel configuration level - You cannot see a list of applets belonging to panel and click one in order to remove.
And if You don't see the applet You can't remove it.
I gave up. Definitely there is sth wrong with mint menu, I found similar reports on other forums but there is no reliable solution.
The menu sometimes appears again and then disappears and so on. It is completely random.
Mint menu sucks, I got rid of it.

Anyway: I'm still very surprised that there is no way to tweak dconf database manually - dconf-editor gives very limited functionality.

The editor isn't the only way to access the configuration file. The dconf command will let you dump the context as plain text and then load it again after modification. It's a risky process, though. Personally, I don't think binary configuration files belong on a Posix system: even the Mac doesn't use them.
