Filesystems

linux seems capable of accessing windows filesystems, but why is windows not able to read linux filesystems.

is there any free software available for windows users wanting to get files off a linux hard drive, actually i presume there isn't because windows can't even see linux drives can it? oh well...

while i'm here i'll ask something else; erm viruses.
with windows its easy to tell if something dodgy is going on with your computer, it only takes a quick glance at the processes list and msconfig.

however (i'm fairly new) in linux, and its always such a mish to find anything out - does linux even get viruses? tsshh... i'm not sure i'm gona be a convert. but for now i'l keep my system dual boot until i need more space.

thanks for any comments

potential linux convert

Pffftt...you think Windows would ever actually pretend like their was another filesystem out there besides NTFS? Or do you think the Windows installer would every give you the option of dual booting with another OS?

Its Microsoft...in their eyes they are the end all.

Because Microsoft doesn't ship drivers for ext2 or other non-Windows filesystems with their operating system. They could if they wanted to, but they don't.

You didn't look very hard, did you? :) A simple Google search will turn up several programs. You could also look at the EXT2 site for a few options.Just don't ask me how well any of them work, because I have no idea.
