cd player
 
any1 know a cd player that plays cds digitally? my cd burner is not hooked up to my snd card with the sound cable, but I want to use it to play CDs cuz it can read CD Text while my CD-ROM can't. >.<

It's a limitation in linux itself, not any software. Just do yourself a favor and get a 2 dollar cable to connect the drive to the card...

yeah I do. just askin cuz in windows it works ;) I got the cable but it would be better to be able to play digital cuz I think it's better quality... dunno for sure.

From what I understand of this, is that linux needs the cable from the device to the sound card (onboard device/whatever), whereas wind0w$ picks the sound off the ide cables.

Oh, and you will probably have to open the box to see if the sound device has 2 connections to handle the device output - a lot of them only have 1.

Also, I would use the cd burner as the main device as that would make the system a bit more flexible - you should still be able to use the cdrom, but not for music under linux only wind0w$

thanks. I was trying to avoid opening the box cuz im too lazy but I guess it must be done :D
