All those who wish to play half-life if you have a pre steam edition the game plays fantastic under latest wine the only things i had to do to make it run correctly were the params after "hl.exe" -win (window mode there is a menu rendering problem on fullscreen) and -gl (opengl)
haven't tested this with the mods but so long as you just want a standard non-steam game you should be ok i should think good luck and i hope that has helped anyone just wanting to play the game offline (valve took won servers offline iirc) :D |

yep its manditory apparently :( shame there isn't someone hosting a master server for half-life so that it could be reconfigured make the game useable without steam but no doubt there is some sort of copyright issue
|
Would be nice to see Age of Empires series running ;(

Atari Arcade Games
If you want Atari arcade games, get the XMAME emulator at x.mame.net.
All of the classic Atari arcade games (Asteroids, Tempest, Centipede, Missile Command, etc) are available legally at starroms.com. They cost about $5 each. If you are like me and want to build an actual arcade machine, goto slikstik.com and get one of their cabinets/controllers. You can also buy a 27" arcade monitor at wellsfargo.com. The video card needed for the older low resultions the arcade games used is at ultimarc.com |
the entire Quest for Glory series. Great games and to this day I still find myself pulling up the old 16 color Quest for Glory 1 for an entire day to run though it and get the 500 point score...

All the Star Wars series, my kids love them and I want to convert them Linux.
Also if Viacom would do it the Star Trek games. Poneyboy |
Games I wish would be ported but won't
Age of empires series Age of Mythology Games that maybe ported when the linux market picks up C&C series Half Life 1&2 +mods BF1942 and bf2 Starcraft Games That I wish were new enough to capture peoples interest enough to be ported Moonstone Pang (there used to be a flash version till they shut it down) I would pay rrp for all these titles on linux, it would mean I could get rid of my windows partition, but I already paid for a few of them as windows versions. |
The Age of * series will probably never be ported, since Ensamble Studios is owned by Microsoft. I'd have to give the game series a big plus as it is quite good.

Diablo II
Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings & it's expansion Doom3 <- I've heard ppl running it on Linux but I don't know if it's native or not. F.E.A.R Icewind Dale & it's expansions Icewind Dale II & it's expansions (if it has them, anyway) Might and Magic 7: For Blood and Honor (it really old but I still play it.) Dungeon Keeper Dungeon Keeper II And if any of these games get ported it had better be done better than bioware did with neverwinter nights. I still haven't gotten nwn to run! I either get a "SDL parachute Deployed" error or it crashes at the main menu. |
For NWN try using your system's SDL (make sure you have all that's required! [mixer, audio, etc]).
And sure enough! Doom3 has a Linux port. As with Quake, intstall the latest point release and then just copy the packs over. |
I think World of Warcraft has to be ported :)
trying to run it under Wine is too much of a hassle just bring out an installer for linux just as they did with UT99(Unreal Tournament 1999) :) |
Starcraft, hands down.
People tell me to use WINE, but it's much more convenient to just have a port. |
