Yeah i was hoping you could put steam games or modern games on aptitude. I dont really have much to play other then minetest and that got boring after a while. Honestly i would like any modern games. Thanks

So, why don't you just install Steam?

betterthanyou710 03-05-2016 11:21 AM

Because im not allowed to. I would like to but its unsafe or at least thats what people tell me. Thanks

Using Steam for more than 6 years now, never had a single problem with security.
Anyways, if you can't install Steam you might want to try GOG.com, they also have a good selection of games and don't require a client installed.

Is their a way to download steam via apt-get?

Yes, if you use Debian 8/Jessie all you need to do is
Code:

apt-get install steam

Which games, how about all games. But if I had to pick a few; Splinter Cell, Counter Strike, Quake III. I would be willing to pay, since I pay for the Windows versions.

CS:GO is in steam and Quake III arena source code is here if you want to play multiplayer with friends.

In the mean time thief runs well on wine.

Hi sag47.

Which one? The first or all? The full games or demos?

Edit: Maybe just the GOG DRM-Free versions would work well. I've tried my old CD versions before with poor results.

sag47 03-19-2016 12:32 PM

I've played Thief: deadly shadows (steam version). I haven't tried any other version. I documented how I set up WINE. Even though I don't list Thief I installed it not long after in the same setup. wine and winetricks are originally on Linux so don't let the OS I did it on distract you.

Hi sag47.

If ever I buy the GOG Thief series, I will try it with Wine\POL.

re: apt-get install steam

I have and there's no package for it. Steam and the Linux games therein were compiled for x86 architectures. Therefore, there's no steam (and no accompanying steam games) for ARM processors as far as I know. Unless the game developers open their source or offer an ARM compatible build (unlikely).

garryg68 04-01-2016 03:14 AM

I was thinking about streaming Steam through my PI2 (onto the big TV in the living-room), there are a few packages that apparently do this quite well.

Currently my PI2 sits in a project box with a hard disk; acting as a Plex Server, come NAS storage device; so why not a Steam streamer as well :)

Although technically this still isn't 'Games on Linux' as such!
