Games

I think one of the biggest thing's that plauge linux of any flavor or decent, Is the fact that you cant goto a store and buy software the old apple computing plauge.. yes i know you can goto compusa etc and buy a distro. Ya tried getting games from them. I think the problem in linux gaming or otherwise is not programing or movment etc.. it simple business modeling of supply and demand... instead of d/l your fave distro. or game, Goto your favorite store and demand they carry the stuff they sell it to you then the money in turn finaces more r&d.. i admit why buy if i can d/l but i do buy the products for such reason because i love to have a choice. I like knowing that support is free 24/7 thanks to places like linux quesation's.org but some one eventually has to foot the bill.
that's us as a consumer. buy games, demand them from your stores.....they will listen if enough ppl talk.....and devlopment will get even faster, better and linux will become dominate:D

The main reason is because Linux was not designed to be a desktop replacement. If it was, linux distros would be spending alot of money to get games on the linux platform. But if we can show them that there is a market for linux platform games then things will change...but i dont see that happening in the near future...but anything can happen ;)

spending money: i.e. R&D to make Lunix more "user friendly".

doom 3 run on a radeon 9000 64mb vid ?? - I think the specs are 256 recommended. Prolly have to tone everything down alot - still might be laggy. [man we're running thru cards pretty fast - I just bought a 64mb now games want a 128mb - bastids ;) ].

arioch 10-10-2003 03:21 PM

Yeah I have a NVidia 5200 256mb card comming...it's being shipped on monday (after a long 2 weeks of being out-of-stock). lol it should be good enough for 6 months :p

mossy 10-10-2003 03:33 PM

heh heh heh no kidding.

Thetargos 10-10-2003 03:57 PM

Six months?? aren't you being optimistic?

LavaDevil94 10-10-2003 06:58 PM

geez... doom3 IS going to be grafix intensive! i meant 64 meg video ram, though. for system ram, i have 512.

mossy 10-10-2003 07:15 PM

yeah I meant 256mb video ram is recommended [I think]. Alot of games now are 128mb recommended.

[edit] also D3 supports Direct X 9

I agree with CyberDoc on buying a distro every now and then on sale for $30 bucks. I went out looking for Mandrake the other day cos I don't get a decent l/d for the life 'o me. I would buy it if that had the latest.

LavaDevil94 10-10-2003 08:24 PM

whoa... im not sure if i can handle it, and the radeon 9000 is already a powerful card!

Thetargos 10-10-2003 11:08 PM

I think we'll just have to wait. I'm sure it will run fair on your hardware, just mind you it'll won't run well at high res with all the gfx detail maxed out :D

Thetargos 10-11-2003 02:14 AM

Hehe... we sure are night birds... (my family says I'm vampiric, not because I replenish from others, but because I don't sleep at night and in the day I'm all sleepy :D)
