I see a lot of people talking about how it would be hard to put so much work into a project and get nothing in return. Why not sell it? Run a commercial. "Shake up the world"...

I like the way the gnu says that it's not free as in "free beer" so much as it's free as in free speech. Sell the OS and the Games, but keep the code free. The whole concept is very easy for the average person to understand.

Make it simple and user friendly. Steer the average user away from the daunting command line and into the GUI. Otherwise, you won't convert my mom. Think of it that way. Sell your product to your grandmother.

If the same people who made SuSE linux made a game that rivaled UT2K3 or Half Life2, I would buy it as soon as I could. I would buy whatever it takes to run it, and if it's exclusive to linux, I may be inclined to learn how to run this "awesome game I saw a commercial for the other day." That's how you gain market penetration. Not by being holier than thou with an attitude like, "There are only 10 types of people, those who understand binary and those who don't"

I'm just ranting, and I speak for the windoze dummies because I am one.

It's true that you want it to be easy for new users to understand, but you also don't want to just make a Windows clone.

kroppus~ I may go about taking that exam later on down the road. going for my linux + first then maybe LPI.

let me know how you get on ~ I would be very interested to know.

Hei Mossy
Long time no see :) Of course i'm going for the E :) *laughs*
I mean the rhcE instead of the rhcT :)
We get two chances for the T and only one for the E...
*grins* Let's see... Of the last class it was 1 of 5 that cot the E and on eof 5 that managed the T. (20 in that class)... Of course i''lll take the E...

I'm not just an ordinary optimist, i'm a manic optimisit with some optimistic disorder... :)

I never really understood the reason for floppies after 2000...
You got mail to send documents on, there's cheap cd's to put stuff on and removing the floppy is just one more way to make your system safer against local hackers..
:)

http://www.penny-arcade.com/forums/v...ic.php?t=51744 <== Penny-arcade thread that I started because I wanted to know how gamers felt about something like this. Perhaps I explained it wrong, but the response overall wasn't positive. If you felt like going there and clearing up what I've muddled, it might be worth some good feedback.

I'll try to remember you for guidance on making AI's. Can you mail me a few tips when you get the chance, though I'm not really ready for them? I'm a newbie programmer and a newbie game developer, and would like to hear from people who's done this stuff before so I'm not flying into this blind. :)

Yeah, i'm going to start learning some programming languages soon & maybe try and play around with Glade, see if I can make a GUI, if you want I could always chip in with ideas when i'm free?

EDIT : I've been using Linux for over 2 months now (if my memory serves me) & i've only had one whole program crash, I love Linux & I also love games, I was a full-time gamer before I switched to Linux, I learnt nothing from Windows apart from how to play games, it would be great to try and create my own programs & maybe even release the source if I can make something worth releasing...

Good luck guys!!
Mike :)

That's the Linux spirit!

Even if your stuff is crap, do release the source code. You can have, like, you make a game engine that doesn't work, and then I come and look at it, modify, and improve it for use with my game. That's why it's open source. It also helps keep costs down and production quality and quantity up. :)
