Debian wheezy

I used to install Lubuntu for friends, recently switched over to Mint Mate - zero problems.
You may have a hardware problem. |
1) What bugs ?
2) What issues ? 3) What problems? 4) What is the hardware? Quote:
Then maybe we can help . but without knowing what "PROBLEMS" you are having , there is nothing we can do |
Too may buggs in Ubuntu 14.04
Quote:
2 - Many freezings during operation: system has to be reinitiated 3 - I can not send messages via webmail... it says: "sending...." and after some time, "error". The same webamail in Win7 has Zero problems 4 - Labels of the menu tabs are wrong color / dark 5 - Programs / firefox close suddenly and a message pops up: "sorry. Internal fault. Do you want to report problem" I say yes, but... 6 - Slow to open applications. I upgrade my computer cause I though it was hardware limitation. That is not! Too heavy! 7 - Several incompatibilities with files from MSOffice (pptx, docx). Loose formating hardly. That what I remember just now. |

For the rest I would also, as k3lt01 does, suggest Debian (and Wheezy otherwise known as Testing is probably a good bet) -- I use it because I gave up on Ubuntu because it seemed to get buggier and buggier for me at the time. |
Linux is about choice. This means distro-hopping. If you don't like one distro there are thousands of others to explore, much to the dismay of "no fracure" fanboys who want one distro to rule them all. If you can't be bothered then go back to Windoze, but you are missing out. It's like going into a store and leaving immediately after picking up a product you don't like. To make it even more ridiculous, almost all products in the store are free and open-source.
Here are listings of distros with some explanations: http://distrowatch.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._distributions |
It's been reported that LibreOffice can open OpenDocument (ODT, ODF, etc) files saved from MS Office perfectly, and MS Office can open OpenDocument files saved from LibreOffice perfectly, and that you'll never have a problem if you have both office suites saving to OpenDocument format.

My suggestion is to really look at the manual for the 14.04 ubuntu ok.
Then if you feel you need a distro change that will not let you down. I would look at some of the elder members in here and see what they are using for their stable distro. At one time i used many disto's in my profile but the truth is there is only two main ones I need. Then I usually run the new livecd's from all the other distro's from grub2. I have found not to tell people what they should like but look at what the real trouble shooters are using for there daily system. The reason why is because we do not really want to test on our stable systems. We just want it to work. Since this forum is not about one distro you will find many flavors. I my self have run 14.04 64 live desktop and I use it to test some of my builds so they run in a stock Ubuntu. I have not had any problems but the truth is I am only testing a couple of programs then I reboot to my stable system. as far as linuxMint debian I fould it to need more work and probally better to do a full install. then there is LinuxMint Ubuntu And it ran ok as a live cd. but none of them are my stable system. |
You may have a bad installation. Linux should not freeze. Always check the checksum of your download before puting it on the disk or usb stick; always burn the disk at minimum speed; if the distro offers to check the installation disk (and Ubuntu does), do it.
I can't speak for Ubuntu, as it won't run on this computer, but I find PCLinuxOS, AntiX MX, Salix, and Point are generally good. PS I've just noticed you're from Brasil. The Portuguese government produce a great distro, Caixa Mágica: http://www.linuxquestions.org/review...page/15/sort/7 |
Is there any info on what hardware is being used?
I agree MS Office and LibreOffice/OpenOffice are not quite compatible yet. It is frustrating when uni supplies templates we must use for assignments and they look screwy in LibreOffice. That is not an Ubuntu problem though. |

As for your question about what to do. Easy answer. Use a different distribution. There are many distros, with some being good and others not. ;) |
Thank you for reply!
