Need a Media Center PC distribution with...
I need a media center linux distribution that meets these requirements:
1. looks decent with composite output of video card connected to a conventional tube television set. 2. supports some type of PC remote control. or should I use a wireless keyboard? 3. allows me to access my music files from a network share. 4. easy to get around for someone new to computers I tried geexbox but i didn't see network capability. I appreciate any suggestions. |
elzmaddy,
Try Knoppix, SUSE or Mandriva Mandriva http://frontal2.mandriva.com/en/downloads/mirrors OPENSUSE http://www.opensuse.org/Download Knoppix http://iso.linuxquestions.org/distro.php?distro=5 All the Linux Distros have exelent Hardware detection and great Multimedia tools, sounds Like what you're Looking for Jake |
So you suggest taking a regular big-name distro and customizing it as needed, as opposed to a specialized distribution like KnoppMyth?
|
if you know about knoppmyth, then why this post? does it not have all those things? is mythtv a distro or application that can be isntalled on a distro? have you tried knoppmyth?
|
KnoppMyth is supposed to be, from waht I understand, Knoppix + MythTV frontend. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me -- it seems to be very, shall we say, "experimental" at this point.

No, it`s not.
knoppmyth is meanwhile Debian 3.1 + MythTV + Hauppage drivers + Huge script collection for getting what you want as easy as possible. For NTSC it works nearly out of the box, for PAL you have to tweak some configs... |
