Advice and help updating kernel on Suse 9.1
I have been using YOU to download and install all the latest patches and such. However I have been unable to download the latest kernel patch that is listed using YOU because my 56k connection kicks me off after a few hours and I need to start again and I'm sure the "continue" button does not work correctly. I've tried about 12 times but it just wont download.
So, I though about trying to download the update using a Kget. That way I can resume the download if(when) the connection is broken. I went to the Suse website and found this: http://www.suse.co.uk/uk/private/dow...s/91_i386.html The first patch seems to be the kernel update that has been listed on YOU for a few weeks. Could someone just confirm (me being a wimp when it comes to the word "kernel") that I can download kernel-source 2.6.5-7.104 and install it like any normal rpm file? If not, can someone point me in the right direction (and a nice easy install) to get me upto date? Many thanks The Dirty Penguin :) |
Yes, Penguin,
Your line of thought is correct. Just make sure you are downloading the exact same rpm that YOU tries to. I saw the kernel sources, 38MB right? Big stuff for a dialup. This is a problem with updaters: they don't take into account the dialup users. |
