Installing linux without cd rom
Greetings,
i have a laptop preloaded with ubuntu. I like to reformat and install with slackware but i could not have no idea how to install without the use of cd rom. I have tried using the usb stick but i think i missing some steps. I tried to google online but i cant seem to find a scenario similar to mine as most of the tutorials online are focusing on windows installed machine where users want to install linux without cd rom. I like a few guidance on what can i do to reformat and install a fresh copy of linux.. Thanks |

It will be helpful if you tell us, what laptop do you have. Can it boot from usb drives, or it's too old? |
Have you searched this website?

Its an asus netbook. It is able to boot from usb. Actually i wan to reformat the whole machine. I do not want the exist OS to be in the machine.
I wondering if i can boot from the bios by select the booting of the usb as the first drive and then reformat by storing the iso in the usb thumb drive. Am i on the correct track? |
You are right. You need to have your removable media in front of any hard drive in your BIOS boot order list.

I did a bit of searching for you
You need the slack file usbboot.img And read these links: http://wiki.msiwind.net/index.php/Slackware_Linux_12.1 ftp://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/linux/slackwar...README_USB.TXT http://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/dis...kware-current/ |
