How to change default file manager

Hi,

I've installed nautilus file manager but don't know how to make it the default file manager. I've created a shortcut with which to open it directly but if I use another application to open a file it opens the deepin file manager and not nautilus. For example when using transmission it opens the folder using deepin file manager while I would like it to use Nautilus.
Any ideas?

What desktop environment are you using?

Look in the control center (or whatever it's called) for an item called "file associations." That's the common term, but it may be called something like "preferred programs." You could also try a web search for "[desktop environment] file associations."

The setting you are looking for should be in there somewhere.

You might also try this; it sometimes works.

Right-click on a file. If you get an "Open With" item in the right-click dialog, click it and navigate to Nautilus to open the file. Then look for a checkbox for something like "Always use this program for this task."

Good luck.

In Deepin, "Default Applications" is the menu entry you need in Control Centre. However, in my version 15.3 there is no option to change the file manager. The other regular items are there though. I would try what frankbell has suggested by going to "open with" in the right click dialogue.

Sadly, as much as Deepin likes to innovate, and come up with their own in house alternatives, in the case of their file manager there is a long way to go yet with it. I notice in some instances I can't get rid of it as a default. I have installed both Thunar and Nautilus - both have their advantages for me.
