When I want to install something, I use the command emerge -f whatever. It fetches the files and then I type in emerge whatever and it compiles the package. It is a pain in the but, the slow connection that is, but it works great, especially after getting the right IDE controller for my hard drive. What problems are you having? Later :D :D :D :D |

internet, cell phone, and home phone package with everything included for $99/month but in the end it was basically the same and my downstream is around 1300kbps .. |
Linux and PeoplePC
Mannayakatheman -
I feel your pain, working with PeoplePC can be trying but...it is possible to use it with linux. The workaround requires you run the program Dialguard 1.0 (not the newest version 2.2?) in Windows with the PeoplePC dailer installed. What happens is PeoplePC's dailer takes your original password and the number you dailed in on and generates a NEW 32 character password. It's different for each dialup number used :( After you have the new password all you need to do is setup a normal DUN in linux. Using their preferred and alternate DNS server numbers (198.6.1.150/198.6.100.150). Should go right thru with no problem. You can also use the same information to KILL their dialup software in Windows. It even seems to speedup the rate pages load. Need more info or help let me know. |
Jabopa, I see that you are new here. While it is good to help add to the body of knowledge for any particular thread, you may not have noticed that his thread was last posted to almost a year ago.

I have Cable with Insight Broadband... it's a 4Mbit line and i pay $45/month for internet only..i.e. - no cable TV, etc.. I used to have digital cable with movie channels, plus cable internet, and it was like $95/month.. which wasn't bad..

I use SBC Yahoo DSL with Mac OS X. For $26.95 a month, we get 1.5Mbps down and 384Kbos up.

Used to be on AOL. When I asked wheteher there was any support for Linux they just sais NO.
Then I switched to Free.fr (good name, no ?) Supports Linux and will be (as they pretend) the first EU isp to reach up to 15 M, For the moment it's only 4, though. Anyway, I like them, they're even promoting Linux (would you believe it ?) :D :D :D |
i really don't know why people would use AOL/compuserve. we get so many problems related to those services, even when the computer is fine.

Does anyone know if Charter is blocking ports? Does anyone run a web server on charter cable (non-business dedicated)?
Thanks |
