i probably think that humans (like animals) have addictive personalitys hardwired into them somehow (i suppose thats what the report is saying), and if its not smoking, its something else like alcohol abuse or over eating. theres probably some evolutionary reason for it.

Must be something in the air. I gave up on the 12th of march and have not smoked since. Did it cold turkey with nothing to help the cravings. I have been a smoker for around 20 years or so. Really surprises me how easy it really is when you come to the real conclusion that you are sick and tired of smoking. I have remained in a good mood and have not stopped eating...LOL. I think a 10 pound weight gain is healthier then a smoke any day.

Good luck with your quitting. Just think of all the money you will save and the health benefits. Helps me pull through (and for some reason, it really has not been that hard anyway).

I have smoke now for let say 40 years and I am still alive and kicking
Beside computers a like to read scientific magazines and what I understand from it is that it is rather difficult to pin down the a reason of a illness For instance why did somebody get lung cancer or COPD because of smoking and others not
May be a guy said it the correct way "Every body is unique biological machine" so the impact will be different for every person.
But I had to admit smoking is not healthy . I try to quit now for at least a dozen time.
And ad my age well I think it does not matter any more .
But I wish every a lot of luck who try to stop smoking

All the best
