Wow, windows that are like 3D when minimized or something like that! Something I would never use and be just a waste of resources to me.

I'm the type that can really care less what my desktop looks like, that's not why I have it. I use it to get things done, not for me to stare in awe at with its beautiful backgrounds, etc.

Sorry to rant and be negative, I just really don't get the hype in people using computers for this, buy a pretty poster and put it on the wall or a painting, that's what those are made for, to decorate and look at. Computers to me are for getting things done, work, etc. ;)

But trickykid, if you have to stare at something (in this case an computer monitor) it might as well be something nice, or not?
That desktop looks cool, but that's about it.

eh, it looks nifty and all but it doesn't look polished and clean. not to mention that it's really 'busy' looking. gimme my fluxbox any day. ;)

Well, that's what I don't understand, I'm not looking at my background while I have windows open working, etc. And I can care less what the borders look like or theme as I'm not concentrated on that either. ;)

I have to side with Trickykid on this one (for the most part).

There's a fine line between looking good while maintaining efficiancy and ease of use and, well, not.

This one looks 'kinda' cool, but it looks difficult to use. That's not what any desktop environment should be about.

I believe in functionality first, but I like a customized desktop, I also find the actual customizing to be the best part. One of the resent fun things I did (could have also been set up with evars), was set a popup entry to control sound volume using the command 'amixer', I had so many sound levels set up (50%-100%), and when I'm browsing the web I can either switch desktops to use the command line, or hit F12 and choose my volume of choice, I found the latter easier, but, thats just me.

The desktop above, why I wonder, is realplayer a requirement?

I have to say that since I use a computer all day long for my job.....I want it to look nice.

If I have to use something all day, I want a nice background, a nice theme...etc.

I believe in functionality first, but I also would like it to be nice looking.

Will I choose nice looking over performance? No Way!

While I can agree with TK and WH on this , I can also see a functional enhancement , presented by this 3D-thingy: Easier to arrange your open applications , due to the addition of a third functional dimension.
At least : I find it easier to arrange my stuff , using all available dimensions. Am I weird?
Wether it's worth the extra use of resources , however , must be determined by experience , I guess.

i am all for a highly customized desktop. i'm at my computer allot and i want it to feel comfortable and be unique. this 3d thing is wild. the next step in desktops. ive actually been contemplating what it would be like to have a 3d environment for about a year now so you can imagine my excitement. so how do i get it?
