I bet that was a fun car. I'd have to say I miss most my '72 GMC 1/2 ton. That thing woulda roasted my mustang. Had a 350 big block with an edlebrock 4 barrell. Put the pedal all the way down and it made noise that would make you cry for joy. Later I had the dual exhaust redone front to rear and it killed some of the rumble, but that thing flew. lol Shadow-lady: It's just a guy thing I spose, as neo said. When I start my mustang in the morning and let it warm up, you can hear the low rumble of an idling V8 as it gets ready to shoot out the driveway. Oh and when I step on it, Oh OH OH!!! *My best Tool-Time grunt* I break traction at every stop and, and...Ok I need to #1 go for a drive & #2 get a life as my thread has so conveniently been 'altered'! Hmmm....Which mod could it be? :)

finegan 03-18-2002 06:24 PM

AHhhh, I think Mr. Kewpie is just jealous because:

a) He has to drive on the wrong side of the road.

or,

b) He doesn't get snow either.

or,

C) er..., uh, hmmm... der... yeah

Cheers,

Finegan (who was going somewhere with that.)

Maybe loud noises are a guy thing, but I do like fast speeds.

I have an Acura Legend coupe from 1990. Not the fastest car, but it gets up and moves quite well. My boytoy is going to be adding some stuff to it that will get more performance and better mileage. He says it will make it a little louder, but not that much. I want to be able to hear my music, not engine and wind noise.

I can say that I wantt o get nice rims and tires for it, and soon it will get a new paint job, as a guy I know works at a body shop so I get 50% off! Maybe a spoiler and Xenon headlamps would be nice also.

So how fast have any of you gone? The fastest I have done is 115 MPH continuous from CA to AZ, 350miles. Now that was fun!

neo77777 03-19-2002 08:56 AM

The fastest I went on my Eclipse was 119 MPH on Jones Beach, lucky me I had a radar, one of the guys I was racing with didn't have it - got busted 18 mounth w/o driver's license - it sucks.

acid_kewpie 03-19-2002 09:49 AM

i think speed is all relative. i've flown in airplanes, at *slightly* more than 115MPH... But then doing 106 in a 1970 Ford escort was quite exciting, what with the exhaust abuot to fall off and all that :D good old M40 stokenchurch cutting.

generally i couldn't care less about fast cars. i'd like a mondeo one day, that's about the limit of my car dreams at the moment.

I have my next two and a half grand aimed at something much faster!

Hmmm.. I once drove from Dallas to Indianapolis in 10 hours, that is 1,000 miles. Stopped twice just for gas, no restroom break, no eating. Don't know why I did that, just having fun on the way home. A normal person it takes around 16 to 18 hours. That was all in my Camaro, now I own a Civic cause I can care less now, good gas mileage and hardly no maintenance goes for me since I am poor. Though I do miss my Camaro.

Sounds like the trickster is settling down. You're going to be one of them 40-50 year old sicko guys that has a major mid life crisis aren't you? ;)

So Acid, what kind of music do you play? I'm bettin' punk, right? Just admit it.... your name says it all!

:p :p :p :p

acid_kewpie 03-19-2002 10:52 AM

punk? well.. no. not this modern blink 182 / sum 41 drivel that people seem to think is punk either... :D actually, i'm reasonably keen on Alkaline Trio at the moment.

I play postrock, which basically means 10 minutes of occasional tings and twangs followedby 10 minutes of white noise per track, without anything inbetween. if anyone's interested, you can hear my old band at http://cakenet.dynu.com/merlin.mp3 i think that my new band is better tho. even if we've only got 3 tracks, we can still easily play for an hour :D

actually the scars from my last gig are just about gone. I have a habit of playing far too hard and end up punching the snare rim a few dozen times by mistake, splitting my knuckles open, and bleeding all over my kit. :D rock on! I usually get down to a point of playing the last 10 minutes of a gig on just a floor tom or something as the rest has long since fallen over or slid across the stage.

secret lives on linux geeks huh?!

Yeah, every once in a while when I think punk is dead, I turn on the radio, hear Blink 182 and realize: Oh, punk is still alive, it just sucks now.

Finegan

speaking of music equipment and what i would get before any dream car is this: http://www.carvin.com/cgi-bin/Isearc...2=LB70&P1=BGTR

oh i am drooling... the bass i been wanting for so long but don't have any money right now.

yeah, mid life crisis sounds good to me, i just won't be one of those 50 year olds with a 18 year old girlfriend. that's sick.

pretty nice, but why are you wasting your time dribbling after a 4striing fretted affair? One of my friends has a gorgeous 5string fretless.. sooo nice.

Im am so glad to hear it! Nothing nastier than an old guy asking a girl out. Argh! Stay in your own age group grandpa!

Anyway, I want a keyboard. As in a musical keyboard. I think it would be alot of fun to play. A flute would be nice too.

Guitars are cool to watch people play, but I personaly dont see myself learning to play one. One of gal friends does though.. she isnt bad. She does nto belong to any bands though.

And Finegan... Blink 182 is not punk. Dead Kennedys is punk. Blink is just alternative. BIG difference. There is no punk rock anymore that I know of.

And my dream car would be a Ferrari Modena. Sleek, fast, and very powerful. I want it black.

Well, as far as continuous, I did a trip from Seattle to Phoenix (actually Coolidge) in 1 1/2 days. Pretty decent for a 1981 Honda Accord 4 door piece o' $#*!. As far as how fast i've gone in ever, a woppin' 150mph in a Mitsubishi Starion 2.5L Turbo on my way from Seattle to Vancouver, B.C. That was fun...Things go by real fast at that point, tunnel vision sets in etc...Rrr rrrr...ok..And you know, if I was 50 and could get an 18 year old girlfriend, HECK YEAH I would.. LOL

Bad Religion still tours, although that's not saying much as I think Greg Graffin has gotten a little worn down over the past 3 decades, but they've got Mr. Brett back and have finally gone home to Epitaph.

Fugazi is still around, hasn't put out an album I've really liked since 13 songs, but yeah still a $5 show.

NOFX is still, hysterical. Of course, we have them to blame for bands like Blink 182.

Wait... Acid on drums, Tricky plays bass, and Shadowhacker on the keyboard... If Taz can sing I think you've got a band. Rehersals would be a pain as half the ensemble lives 6000 miles from the other half, but I see possibilities. But what for a name?

Cheers,

Finegan
