March Snow...Wha tha?
Because i'm really bored and for the simple fact that I CAN. I am posting a "Wha tha heck, it's March 16th and snowing!" thread. As I look to my right and notice the blizzard forming outside, I can't help but wonder why? It's not cold! And I live near Seattle, now that in itself should warrant rain. This reminds me of last Sunday up at Steven's Pass snowboarding and while getting on the lift, the board became stuck on someones skis and twisted my leg 90 degrees the wrong way, thereby yanking my knee out of it's socket. Bad knees already, so it happens easily. What a way to spend what was supposed to be a killer day. The powder OH the powder!!!!

 hmmm? snow? what is this "snow" you speak of?

My gosh, I guess I didn't think about where people were and just assumed. Well, it's stopped and started all day and if I can, will send some your way. People on the other side of the mountains here laugh at us for shutting things down for a couple inches of snow, but then again it's 'hilly' (sp?, word?), so it differs. I done been through Atlanta once. Only the airport on my way to Hunstville for Space Camp when i was 13. It was a cool looking airport, LOL but that's all I saw. Alabama hd a buttload of red clay everywhere. :(
|
I've never been to Seattle. I'm still upset with that town for inflicting Starbucks upon the world. I fear that one day Starbucks may indeed open a franchise in my colon. I've been to Washington once, got out of the car, spit on the ground and noticed that when I got back from the restroom that it had frozen. Then I turned back on I-5 and headed back into Oregon.
Spacecamp huh? I didn't get the chance to see Spacecamp until I was 20. A good number of my college friends and an ex lived in Hunstville. It makes sense that they put Spacecamp there, just about the only place in the world more desolate and depressing than moon itself. Cheers, Finegan |
SNOW!!!....send some this way, two weeks into autum and it's still 30°c+ here.......
|
I've got +15C today. Come to Europe! It's really nice weather!
|
You can have it!!
Live in Birmingham, AL. and went to Atlanta, GA. for a shopping trip. (My wife had to find just the right purse(s))
Was 73 - 77 F all day. |

I went snowboarding this year once, only because the snow in this God forsaken state (why am I still here again?) didnt stay very long. It was fun, and being my first time, the instructor said I did a decent job of staying up.
And that same trip I ended up hitting a patch of ice in my newly purchased car and flew off the road into a snow filled ditch. No damage. Got unstuck when some guys pulled over to help. I found out later that the previous owner disconnected the rear ABS.. why I dont know. Oh well. Oh, and taz..... I vote to wait a month when your ready. |
Yeehoo, it snowed here in NJ last nite. Second day of snow we've had all winter. Usally we get a few feet of snow a year but this year has been strange, maybe 8 inches all winter. I've been wanting more so I can get squirrelly in my jeep.
|
Well the yard is downloading an arseload of snow AGAIN today. It's actually sticking and looks like the white wonderland that Dec. is 'sposed to look like. I still don't get it, but oh well..It's nice to see.
I always thought NJ was a snowy area myself. Maybe you got lucky this year? Or unlucky if you like it. As for me, my Mustang ain't going anywhere today. Arrr Arrr, man-like sounds!! V8, rear wheel drive!! Rrr rrrr... ;) |

You guys are making me miss one of my old cars, a '72 VW: Jack Kevorkian the bad kharma ghia. It had no exhaust tubes running off of the oh my goodness 1600cc engine in the trunk so not only did it making blaring noise, it also made you lightheaded if you were at a stoplight for too long. 80% bondo/duct tape and love. We used to play games of who will win, Jack or the Trash can.
Cheers, Finegan |
I bet that was a fun car. I'd have to say I miss most my '72 GMC 1/2 ton. That thing woulda roasted my mustang. Had a 350 big block with an edlebrock 4 barrell. Put the pedal all the way down and it made noise that would make you cry for joy. Later I had the dual exhaust redone front to rear and it killed some of the rumble, but that thing flew. lol Shadow-lady: It's just a guy thing I spose, as neo said. When I start my mustang in the morning and let it warm up, you can hear the low rumble of an idling V8 as it gets ready to shoot out the driveway. Oh and when I step on it, Oh OH OH!!! *My best Tool-Time grunt* I break traction at every stop and, and...Ok I need to #1 go for a drive & #2 get a life as my thread has so conveniently been 'altered'! Hmmm....Which mod could it be? :)

AHhhh, I think Mr. Kewpie is just jealous because:
a) He has to drive on the wrong side of the road. or, b) He doesn't get snow either. or, C) er..., uh, hmmm... der... yeah Cheers, Finegan (who was going somewhere with that.) |
Maybe loud noises are a guy thing, but I do like fast speeds.
I have an Acura Legend coupe from 1990. Not the fastest car, but it gets up and moves quite well. My boytoy is going to be adding some stuff to it that will get more performance and better mileage. He says it will make it a little louder, but not that much. I want to be able to hear my music, not engine and wind noise. I can say that I wantt o get nice rims and tires for it, and soon it will get a new paint job, as a guy I know works at a body shop so I get 50% off! Maybe a spoiler and Xenon headlamps would be nice also. So how fast have any of you gone? The fastest I have done is 115 MPH continuous from CA to AZ, 350miles. Now that was fun! |
The fastest I went on my Eclipse was 119 MPH on Jones Beach, lucky me I had a radar, one of the guys I was racing with didn't have it - got busted 18 mounth w/o driver's license - it sucks.
|
i think speed is all relative. i've flown in airplanes, at *slightly* more than 115MPH... But then doing 106 in a 1970 Ford escort was quite exciting, what with the exhaust abuot to fall off and all that :D good old M40 stokenchurch cutting.
generally i couldn't care less about fast cars. i'd like a mondeo one day, that's about the limit of my car dreams at the moment. I have my next two and a half grand aimed at something much faster! http://www.vdrums.com/random/17.gif |

So Acid, what kind of music do you play? I'm bettin' punk, right? Just admit it.... your name says it all! :p :p :p :p |
punk? well.. no. not this modern blink 182 / sum 41 drivel that people seem to think is punk either... :D actually, i'm reasonably keen on Alkaline Trio at the moment.
I play postrock, which basically means 10 minutes of occasional tings and twangs followedby 10 minutes of white noise per track, without anything inbetween. if anyone's interested, you can hear my old band at http://cakenet.dynu.com/merlin.mp3 i think that my new band is better tho. even if we've only got 3 tracks, we can still easily play for an hour :D actually the scars from my last gig are just about gone. I have a habit of playing far too hard and end up punching the snare rim a few dozen times by mistake, splitting my knuckles open, and bleeding all over my kit. :D rock on! I usually get down to a point of playing the last 10 minutes of a gig on just a floor tom or something as the rest has long since fallen over or slid across the stage. secret lives on linux geeks huh?! |

oh i am drooling... the bass i been wanting for so long but don't have any money right now. yeah, mid life crisis sounds good to me, i just won't be one of those 50 year olds with a 18 year old girlfriend. that's sick. -trickykid |
pretty nice, but why are you wasting your time dribbling after a 4striing fretted affair? One of my friends has a gorgeous 5string fretless.. sooo nice.

Anyway, I want a keyboard. As in a musical keyboard. I think it would be alot of fun to play. A flute would be nice too. Guitars are cool to watch people play, but I personaly dont see myself learning to play one. One of gal friends does though.. she isnt bad. She does nto belong to any bands though. And Finegan... Blink 182 is not punk. Dead Kennedys is punk. Blink is just alternative. BIG difference. There is no punk rock anymore that I know of. And my dream car would be a Ferrari Modena. Sleek, fast, and very powerful. I want it black. |

Fugazi is still around, hasn't put out an album I've really liked since 13 songs, but yeah still a $5 show. NOFX is still, hysterical. Of course, we have them to blame for bands like Blink 182. Wait... Acid on drums, Tricky plays bass, and Shadowhacker on the keyboard... If Taz can sing I think you've got a band. Rehersals would be a pain as half the ensemble lives 6000 miles from the other half, but I see possibilities. But what for a name? Cheers, Finegan |

Front Royal VA to Long Beach CA, 47 hours, 10 minutes. A couple years later we did Auburn AL, to San Deigo CA in 35 hours, 45 minutes Both of these with only two drivers in a 1979 Mercedes Benz 280CE. The fastest I've gone in a car had to be in that old Benz, but the speedometer would start shaking violently (with the rest of the vehicle), around 110. A few past that maybe, but not much. Quote:

#2 In fact I do sing. LOL Not in a band, but I have been asked before and would think it'd be cool if I wasn't so shy...That's ok though cause Jim Morrison started out singing with his back to the crowd. Then again he died at my age. Ups and downs to everything I spose. :p |

I am laughing too hard right now... :p Yuhall just crack me the hell up!! I just hope that people read this thread before thinking i'm some old fart needing a 20 year old girlfriend... lol
Although being addicted to Slack and not smack (rolling laughter), I've now got a permenant hunch with Slack written all over it. My left pinky is now the shape of an L as it's almost fused itself to the left ctrl key. I don't know if i'd rather be deformed or dead. Hmm...Going to Redmond for the pun? Hmm, that couldn't be a shot at the city. How about 1 Microsoft Way instead? Yes, their campus is that big and is the true name of the street that goes through...Pretty pathetic yeah? Cheers, NOOOOORRRM! Oops.... FINEGANNN! p.s. Wouldn't acid make a great Cliff Claven? D'oh... ;) |

Bloody hell! I've only been away for about 4 days and I've missed this!
Quick catchup: Snow - we don't get snow down my way. Cornwall (England) has snow maybe once every 7 years or so. We do get a hell of a lot of rain and 'sky-snot' (you know, that bloody awful stuff that some people call sleet - it's not really rain, or snow, or anything, it's just bad). Cars - Not really a fast car person myself. I get enough scary adrenalin by driving along roads at 90Mph that are maybe 2' wider than my car. I'm more of a creature comforts driver. I liked my Kia Pride - it's only a 1.3 but goes like shit-off-a-shovel (recently I had the pleasure of meeting some Welsh bloke who reckons that the Welsh saying of a similar nature is 'goes like greased weasel shit' - now that's just plain wrong). Has lots of nice things to get used to, though. Shame I crashed it. Finegan, we don't drive on the wrong side of the road, just not on the right side. (Get it? OK, it was terrible wasn't it?) Distance - The quickest I've ever done a relatively long drive was Plymouth > Bristol in about 50mins. It was 4am, and it normally takes about 2h during the day. Music - Don't play any instruments, I really should be stopped from singing since I'm awful, but I do write music - you know, that modular .IT stuff, like the tunes for TuxRacer. Ladies - I hope I never get to be a Hefner-a-like with stupidly young girlfriends. It's just not right. I'm gonna have to be a little more restrained on my choice of ladies soon though. I'll be starting a teaching course in Sept, and then be teaching up to 18yos. Scary. OK, if you could get out-of-breath from typing, I would be. Buggar, I'm sure I've missed something in here - just can't find it! |
Very concise and to the point. Beautiful return post...One thing still remains. Do you mind being Coach from Cheers? ;)
|
anyway, why don't we get snow in england? maybe you should tell the snow that... normally snows at some point of every year, just not in cornwall, english rivera and all that.
|
English riviera my arse! I actually find it's quite funny, being at Uni in the south-west. Many of the first years came to Plymouth because "it's in the south-west, it's has nice weather" - little do they know that it actually rains for about 9 months solidly! Oh it makes my laugh!
Oh, and who was Coach? I've only ever seen about 3 episodes of Cheers - just never really got into it. |
Mr. Kewpie's take on the whole thing:
Mr. Devil needs a life. Taz wants a twenty year old girl. I don't want to be an ageing postman! Thymox, Coach was the original bartender for the first 3 (?) seasons before they launched the career of Woody Harrelson. Okay, I'll take the Frasier comparison, but really I wish I could be Carla's ex-husband Nick, played by Dan Hedya. Oh my, I think I spent the 80's watching nothing but Cheers and Night Court. And to somehow bring it all back home, about the weather: it could be worse, you could live in a city where it goes from the dead of winter to summer overnight and in glazing humidity the 1/2 mile walk to work leaves you sweating out a quart. Cheers, Finegan |
Im just glad I am not being compared to any characters on Cheers. I would be very worried. Very worried indeed.

Nellis AFB Nevada to Mountain Home AFB Idaho. 650 miles in 6hrs, stopping for about 45mins for lunch and to stretch my legs, and to get gas every 200 miles or so. Going that fast ate up some gas.
1986 Honda VFR 750 avg speed 120miles an hour, except when I had to go through one of the few towns along the way. There was one stretch that there wasnt anything, nothing for almost 100 miles, no gas, no towns, nothing, just desert. Man i never had such a bad sunburn, my back was sunburned from the top of my ass to mid back, Arms were wind burned, sunburned, and dry for a days. |
