the passwords aren't stored encrypted (hence a 'decrypt' is indeed impossible) but hashed. Secondly, depending on the password quality, length and hash-algorithm used it is impractical to try and crack the hashes, but it's not impossible. You could compare it to winning lotto ;} - just a few levels more improbable. Cheers, Tink |
Many thanks Tinkster, for the enlightenment ! I think I should research myself before blindly trusting the senior members !

Please don't compare Senior Members to Mods  We're not that bad/good/evil/dominant (take your pick if applicable). Both Pix and Tink are mods. @mods: just kidding, don't take it personal. Kind regards, Eric |
:)
I actually meant "Senior" w.r.t knowledge and posting quality ! Somehow I used to believe that Pixel, unSpawn, Tinkster, TBOne, Sergei, and EricTra are highly knowledgeable people around and can never be wrong  |

Of the entire domain of computer knowledge, I myself am genuinely expert at a small fraction of that domain. I am very conversant with a somewhat larger fraction of that domain, and I know how to find out what I need to know in a still larger fraction of that domain. There remains a significant fraction of that domain where I am nearly or totally ignorant. Anyone here, or anyplace else, who is considered an expert, will say pretty much the same thing. |

But I'm repeating myself ;} And "young" isn't necessarily an age-thing. Cheers, Tink |
