how do I completely uninstall IE
Hi,
I have installed FireFox on my XP SP2 and I find it great. My question is: how can I completely uninstall IE ? Does anybody know? thanks, ddaas |
It doesn't come out, as it is an integral part of XP

Asking how to remove IE is not a Linux question, moved to General where its more suitable.
|
You can never uninstall IE. It is like trying to remove the steering wheel off a running car and the results would be equally as disastrous.
|
I know how. Try this in Start->Run: "format c:\"
This'll help u to get completely to Linux :) __________ Slackware "you have mail": Psychology. Mind over matter. Mind under matter? It doesn't matter. Never mind. |
That's not a bad idea, if you don't like IE, perhaps you could well do with a change. Linux is an excellent choice, why not make it your primary?
|
Go find a program called XPLite, it strips all sorts of unnecessary files and programs from XP - enabling it to run quicker and on less powerful hardware.

Isn't there a proggy called "IEradicator" available?
I recall , it claimed to be able to remove IE from your system without harm.... |

I don't need to make linux my primary choice because linux IS my primary choice. :)
At work I have a RHEL3 with a lot of servers on it and 50 hosts behind it and at home I have Slackware. :D Unfortunately I need some programs (visual c++) or photoshop which run only on Windows :( So I also have XP SP2. ddaas |

I dont think that matters. As long as you have good firewall and virus sanner, you are safe. The only updates I do are media player and directx. |
I think win updates are very necessary. There are a lot of vulnerabilities that need patches. mydoom virus was just an example.

Isn't this part of the Anti-Trust lawsuit? I read (in a real newspaper :D ) about MSFT having to release a version of Windows in EU that didn't have Windows Media Player. They agreed, and said they would only release it in EU as that's where the ruling was. And the article went on to say that it was a foolish thing to do. People won't know of anything else available, and upon first "update" will be offered the player for free anyway. It allowed MSFT to hike up the price of a version of Windows that comes with a Media Player...
Anyway, yeah, I don't think you can remove IE without major effects on the system (XPLite I think doesn't even completely remove it?). Cool |
As far as I'm concerned, some win apps REQUIRE IE. I think, it's NortonUtilities. And some great Russian app - Solo on keyboard, which helps you to leran to type without looking at your keyboard!
_____ I've learned 65 lessons of 100 for Russian keyboard. Only one word: Typnig not looking on a keyboard is VERY CONVINIENT and FAST! Try it. It's low price. (I use, of course, pirated :) |
