Supermount or udev/D-BUS?
Every few months I get a hankering to give Linux another whirl on my insanely complex machine, and I usually just give up after a few months of desperate trying. I am on another such endeavor.
The 2.6 kernel freaks out if you have more than 6 IDE devices, and I have 8, so I am settling for FC1 for the time being. Maybe some day I will compile my own kernel that will support all 8 of them, but I am not that good yet. One thing I have always disliked about Linux is the hassle of mounting and dismounting removable media. I have a DVD-ROM, a CD Burner, an LS120, and the usual floppy. They all get pretty regular use. Supermount is NOT included in the FC1 kernel according to this: Quote:
Supermount code seems pretty unruly for someone as new at this as me, but then I have no idea how hard it would be to do it with udev and D-BUS. Any hints? TIA J |
i found submount to be easier to use. i mean, all i did was follow the instructions on the site, and it worked. with supermount, there was a lot more to do, and i can use time elsewhere hehe.
http://submount.sourceforge.net/ --edit: actually, the build instructions aren't on the site, but the INSTALL or README was enough i believe |
