Loginscreen problems Fedora 8
After updating my system from Fedora 7 to Fedora 8 I have a weird problem.
When I press a key in the loginscreen the screen resolution changes. Every keypress I do the screen resolution changes for example from 1280x1024 to 1024x768 and so on. I can't login in anyway. Some had familiar with this problem ? |
If you can switch to the text console (CTRL-ALT-F2) look at your /etc/X11/xorg.conf
What type of video card? Are you using any proprietary drivers? Did you have any hardware acceleration or desktop effects enabled in your previous install? |
I all tried that.
I use a NVidia 7300 GT card and also deinstalled the nvidia-kmod driver. When I'm in the login screen and I press CTRL-ALT-F1 to switch to a textconsole the resolution changes also. Nothing else happens. The xorg.conf is the same as when the loginscreen was correct. The only way to login is to startup with init 3. Keyboard works fine. Very strange. |
I've found the solution.
FreeNX has a bug with Fedora 8. After deinstalling FreeNX and NX the problem went away. Pitty that I found this after doing a fresh new install of Fedora 8. Couls have saved me a lot of time. |

I had placed a file 'freenx.conf' to '/etc/ld.so.conf.d' which had '/usr/lib/nx' in it and than run /sbin/ldconfig. This was needed because otherwise Freenx crashed after the connection was made and the authentication took place. But after running ldconfig the problems with the login screen started. After removing the freenx.conf file and running '/sbin/ldconfig' again the login problem went away. |
