So why did you have to ask a question I found the answer to with a 30 second google?

there is a "netflix /firefox/WINE " bundle that almost works

to use netflix
install windows7 and use Internet Explorer 9

but with fedora using the "pam" hack to run the GUI as root will cause problems
SE problems
and update problems

Because the "answers" Google provides do not work for me. I want help, not undeserved criticism.

How do you know you've had no problems running as root? Could you prove, for example, that, at no time during those 14 years, no rootkit was ever installed on your system?

But I must agree with you that this discussion has veered fairly far off topic.:( (Feel free to ignore my comment above. It's your system to run as you wish.)

-------------------------------------------------

So, to return to the topic, I just tried my Firefox (also version 24), and got the same page you saw. I did notice that the page does not mention any Linux support for anything, so I thought I'd try streaming once more in google-chrome. Guess what? The same message popped up!

So I looked around some more, and discovered that Netflix depends on the M$ "Silverlight" package to work, and, if you don't have a silverlight plugin, streaming won't work.

UNLESS you can get the pipelight plugin working on your system. :) (As you can see from the installation instructions, this may be a nontrivial task if you aren't running one of the Debian family distributions.)

the MS silverlight issue is why there is a custom built install ( bundled) Microsoft firefox.exe running in a custom built wine with a custom built mono .

but
save your self a headache
use netflix on win7 and IE 9 or 10

Most thoughtfull on your part, credit for you. I've signed the petition for Netflix to make this work. It should not be such a powerful influence from the Linux community to justify Netflixs' efforts (or lack of) in this area. I'll leave it at that until a satisfactory solution is fulfilled on the part of Netflix.

Don't hold your breath. Netflix used too use Flash for streaming but the content providers told them to use Silverlight or they'd take their content away. So, unless a lot of people are made unhappy and HTML5 gets encrypted video support you're looking at being officially locked out of all commercial video streaming indefinitely. I say officially because I think I have heard of some people using the Microsoft Silverlight solution above effectively but it doesn't seem to work for everyone.
