It's a proprietary format. You can get the thing above for 35 bucks to view, or...

You can get crossover office for 75 bucks here:
http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxoffice/

And install Microsoft Office 2003.

It's a proprietary format, and as such, you are intentionally screwed.

You will notice the first link is the viewer. It doesn't get any better than that- sorry.

Hi,

Out of casual interest, how did OpenOffice etc do it with stuff like Word documents. Was it just a lot of (am I allowed to say it?) reverse engineering? That must have been a hell of a lot of hard work.

Jamie.

Word, PowerPoint, and Excel format were reverse-engineered- yes. They don't have as stringent a license on them and so they are legally able to be opened by other office products.

And yes, it's like swimming uphill I would imagine. OpenOffice uses the XML standard format by default so anybody can interoperate with it.

Try Ganttzilla

In order to view popular project plan documents (MPP, MPX, MSPDI, PLANNER) try free online viewer - Ganttzilla (www.ganttzilla.com).
All You need is just a web browser.

Hope that will help.
Best,
Taras

If you have a MS Project license you could always try and download wine. I use wine with a decent amount of video games that need to be run in a windows.

Found it!

A free (not open!) Project Viewer I'm using, and it works even with M$ Project 2013, is MOOS (http://www.moosprojectviewer.com/).
My 2 cents!
