Changing Default Desktop From Gnome to KDE
It's been awhile since i have used linux and forgot how to change the default desktop from gnome to kde, can anyone help me with this?
Thanks demo_worx |
In the top menu, click "Desktop", then "preferences" and "more preferences"
It should be in that menu, (On older GNOME versions, I seem to remember the "settings" was in the Applications menu.) You can also do it from the initial gdm login screen -- just click on "Sessions" and pick whichever you want to use. |
Nope, that was not it. I am using FC3 if that helps. I remeber there was a file I could edit to change it. Just don't remember the file.
Thanks again. demo_worx |
To change it just for yourself, run "switchdesk kde" in a terminal. To change it for all users, edit /etc/sysconfig/desktop and change the desktop from GNOME to KDE.

That was it, thanks for the help.

x window manager configuration
For slackware, I used to run 'xwmconfig'

how to change from KDE to Gnome desktop environment
edit /etc/sysconfig/desktop and change the desktop from GNOME to KDE <<< this worked for
me, I'm using Knoppix 7.4.2 and got stuck in KDE and didn't know how to get back to my original desktop environment so I put an # symbol in front of each line in the desktop file located at /etc/sysconfig/desktop by using the vi text editor (as root)(su or sudo) and then closed the file and rebooted...got my original desktop back!!!
