i had opened a thread asking this question here and it was said that the functionality was due to an add on that i had to install. i have upgraded, and am running the latest version as i did update and upgrade last night. the original answers i was given said i needed a gnome tweak tool, but i found something interesting by accident. i had logged out, and logged in as root, then ran startx, so was logged into the gui as root. i noticed that the functionality is there as root, not as tim. why is this and how do i get the option back as tim?
also, i had noticed that the control wasn't working when cutting and pasting, but i found out that was because of the usb keyboard plugged into the laptop. i have the laptop on the desk and another monitor and a usb keyboard and mouse. the control does not work on the usb keyboard, but it does on the laptop keyboard. i installed kde, but i like the way gnome works with the windows key on the keyboard to get things open now.
any ideas would be appreciated, and i have included pictures of both situations for reference.
may i ask what the connection is? i really hate to go mucking around with updating things individually by hand, last time i tried that sort of thing, it ended up breaking other things and causing more problems than it fixed. this is a minor inconvenience that i'd rather not risk compatibility issues with debian on...
i almost did it, but it was a lot of work for a try without an explanation. i am glad i waited for it. do you have any ideas on this one? the function was there when i installed debian, and it stayed for a week or so, then it disappeared. i would be ok with it leaving if it were not there when i am logged in as root. to me, that makes no sense at all. either it is supposed to be there or it is not.
