Glad you posted that. Was going to myself.

Always a great place to start if you are running out of space.

The install I am on is about 2 weeks old and if I ran either of those I would ditch about a gig.

I should say this is a Sid install and the packages stack up quicker than in a Stable install. Much quicker.

In this case the correct term would be "package files" (Ie *.deb). From the apt-get man page:
Code:
       clean
           clean clears out the local repository of retrieved package files.
           It removes everything but the lock file from
           /var/cache/apt/archives/ and /var/cache/apt/archives/partial/.
To OP:
Anyway using du you can step through your directory tree and work out what is taking up space. Additionally, since you said you are using LVM you can ready one of the many online tutorials and resize your partitions as needed.
