Could someone please point me in the right direction or explain to me how to add an application (in this case VIM and Firefox) to the right-click menu on the CentOS 7.0 desktop? I would like to be able to right-click on my desktop and, in addition to Net Folder, Open in Terminal, etc..., have VIM and Firefox available.

I have looked and looked and did find references to adding a script to the ~/.local/share/nautilus/scripts directory, but that seems to be for pre-CentOS 7 releases and does not work here. Created the script, chmod +x name.sh, and logged out and back in, nothing shows up in the context menu.

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

I’m not exactly a CentOS 7 expert and yes I agree with many the version 7 is almost a flop. Version 6.7 with KED 3.x works like gang busters.

Remember the saying, “If it ain’t borke don’t fixit”. Lessons to be learned. KDE 4.x sucks to say the least.

Download your application with yum or rpm. Then if the application isn’t listed at all in in in the kick start menu, then go right click the kick start icon on the lower left hand side of the screen and there will be a way to get a launcher into the system for the new app. You can then right click the app in the kick start menu and place it on the desk top.

CAUTION: Don’t place the app icon in the panel It can’t be removed.
