Question CentOS 7 - Installation issues on P4 however works fine on Hyper-V

Hi there,

I am currently in a situation where I am trying to install CentOS 7, however when booting into the installation it get into this [CentOS "core"] environment which I am assuming is a minimal installation of some sort. Typing "startx" says the command is not found. ...Anyway, the USB media that I used to install was prepared using Unetbootin on Fedora 20. That same ISO image that was used was also used to run a test installation on Hyper-V which seemed to work well and the graphical installation booted first time without any problems.

I have also tried to see if I can find something in the wiki.centos.org pages however did not ssems to come right there either.

My next stop is the LQ. I was maybe hoping someone could enlighten this one for me or provide some hints as to what I am doing wrong.

Thank you
Marios

p4 ?
is that a pentium 4 cpu

gnome3 will not run well and will fall back to failsafe mode

cent6.6 will mostly run on a p4
cent5 is fully supported for a old p4 cpu

startx is not used - locked out
use gdm as a NORMAL USER

Thumbs up

Hi John VV

Thank you for your feedback. It seemed to issue was with unetbootin. I prepared the flash drive using

Quote:
dd
which seemed to do the trick. Thanks again.

Marios
