Emacs + Melpa has grown into an unstoppable monster of functionality.

Every darn thing you might want your environment to do, there is a package for it.

No, actually there are at least three competing options.

If you asked me two years ago, I would of said I was a top notch emacs power user.

Ask me now, I say... Well, gee, there is all this really nifty stuff thats appeared that I'm just learning and getting my head (and fingers) around. I feel like I'm at the bottom of the emacs learning curve again... but that's OK, because I know I'm going straight upwards in terms of functionality starting from a high base.

Quite disappointed Gnome Builder isn't on this list as it has improved massively over 2016. For many languages this has become a very powerful IDE.
