Ztcoracat 12-17-2012 06:58 PM

Hi:

I use VLC for all the videos and movies I watch.

k3lt01 12-17-2012 07:24 PM

VLC hands down, it plays everythign I ask it to while other players don't.

You should try mplayer ;).

clocker 12-18-2012 01:45 AM

VLC thanks to Laurent Aimar and his friends. mplayer try's but needs hundreds of dependecies to eventually play an mp3 at install.

sycamorex 12-18-2012 02:05 AM

Still mplayer.

kgslade 12-18-2012 02:07 AM

VLC beats all of the others, Dragonplayer is the best of the rest but a long way behind

kooru 12-18-2012 06:00 AM

still mplayer me too

Keith Hedger 12-18-2012 06:03 AM

I don't really watch videos on my PC but I use mplayer/ffmpeg to rip ( legal ) videos to disk so I can watch them on my TV.

I own legal copies of ALL my videos. DON'T PIRATE!

tallship 12-18-2012 06:08 AM

mplayer - but I voted for miro this year instead of vlc...

mplayer FTW!

But I voted for miro coz it's pretty freakin' kewl (even though it's kind of a biotch to install on new slack systems right now w/sbopkg queues coz some of the source for the deps has moved around a bit).

But the best go to that you just know is gonna work every time is still VLC - Which is use almost as much as mplayer... maybe a bit more.

:hatsoff:

.

anticapitalista 12-18-2012 06:44 AM

mplayer here too.

metalaarif 12-18-2012 08:39 AM

VLC Rules

PhoenixAndThor 12-18-2012 07:25 PM

VLC hands down. It does/plays everything I want.

teckk 12-19-2012 07:04 PM

If you have mplayer, mencoder, ffmpeg and know how to use them, you don't have any need for anything else.

johnraff 12-19-2012 09:53 PM

mplayer

honeybadger 12-20-2012 02:05 PM

Sorry, but then I _know_ the result of this poll. It is VLC :). The slackbuilds are gems to have (Thanks again Alien Bob)

audriusk 12-21-2012 04:06 PM

Torn between mplayer and VLC, but I think I used mplayer a bit more this year.

jamison20000e 12-21-2012 07:32 PM

VLC and music too

konsolebox 12-22-2012 06:25 AM

I've been a long fan and user of MPlayer but VLC is now really better than MPlayer - even as an application called from terminal.

pavlov_v 12-23-2012 08:22 AM

Well, how to vote for my favorite XBMC. It's more than just a player.

weirdwolf 12-24-2012 03:23 PM

VLC 70% of time, SMPlayer the rest

cowlitzron 12-27-2012 08:44 PM

I don't see KPlayer on the list. KPlayer is a KDE player which uses an MPlayer backend. Slackware includes KPlayer in its tree. Arch Linux has it in AUR.

redfox2807 12-28-2012 04:55 AM

I wonder where SMPlayer is. No one uses it at all?

Attachment 11498 Attachment 11499 Attachment 11500

The only player to work on my oldest machines\@#37, simply the best.

sunnydrake 12-29-2012 10:08 AM

recently discovered Showtime
I use it on PS3 and Linux it's good alternative to bloated and slow XBMC when used to watch video from internet sources.
Got VLC remote setup to control video from phone or stream to it.
This year i haven't managed to setup home network television, maybe next year i will test and develop solutions for IPTV/network streaming .

digigold 01-02-2013 05:48 PM

Could someone please add SMplayer as a voting option? Much better than VLC IMHO...

William_White 01-03-2013 10:58 AM

I use mplayer or bangarang because vlc doesn't work on my netbook.

kamilmau 01-03-2013 11:26 AM

VLC, Real Player

austintx 01-03-2013 12:42 PM

I voted for mplayer - but really wanted to vote for smplayer which has a great interface.

jeremy 01-03-2013 12:43 PM

At this time we do not plan on adding any of the mplayer front end/GUI options to the category, although I'm open to discussion on why we should.

SMplayer's front-end design and code (I like qt apps) are why I use it. I never found other Mplayer options like KMplayer very appealing and would most likely go with something quite different. I understand your point though so I guess I'll just vote for Mplayer.

Thanks for replying.

gradinaruvasile 01-08-2013 09:34 AM

I use VLC for short clips. But for movies/youtube i recently started using XBMC - it is the only Linux player that has REAL HW decoding (the real Xvba, not VAAPI) for AMD cards/APUs.

divyashree 01-10-2013 09:51 PM

mplayer rules ...

SilentSam 01-14-2013 12:55 PM

mplayer with the smplayer frontend is an instant install on all my systems.

tommcd 01-15-2013 01:00 AM

VLC is clearly head and shoulders above the rest in this category. However, MPLayer has always been a favorite of mine and I could easily get by with MPlayer as my only audio and video player.

WonderWoofy 01-15-2013 11:00 AM

Should there be a separate mplayer and mplayer2? Or are they close enough that this poll is considering them the same thing?

jeremy 01-15-2013 11:11 AM

mplayer2 has been added.

Agreed, I watch all my movies with XBMC, nothing else compares! But to just watch a 30 video clip on my desktop/laptop it's always vlc.

chrisretusn 01-16-2013 07:03 PM

VLC media player

etech3 01-31-2013 06:49 PM

Still use player the most.

SpartanNihilist 02-01-2013 02:46 AM

Vlc

nandan92 02-01-2013 06:20 AM

Always great see Spike Milligan!

Kallaste 02-01-2013 08:49 AM

For me, VLC is the only media player.

trillobyte 02-02-2013 12:16 PM

Mplayer works best for me!

ted_chou12 02-02-2013 08:54 PM

mplayer!!! it could do so much that you dont even realize. BTW there is mplayer2? anyone mind sharing that?
Thanks,
Ted

nasal 02-03-2013 09:23 AM

Smplayer

Smplayer with no decorations but everything available at right click is my favourite!!!

Fa773N_M0nK 02-03-2013 02:57 PM

What about SMPlayer?

Its a front-end to mplayer.

Pixxt 02-04-2013 06:39 AM

Voted mplayer since I use SMplayer all the time. VLC is a close second

wpost 02-04-2013 08:12 AM

SMPlayer for me, thanks. It has mplayer goodness wrapped up in a clean, easy to use and configure interface.
