Until a piece of grit gets in your eye / piece of debris hits you in the face and you lose control and hit someone else...

Have you ever ridden on or in an open vehicle? If you ride in a convertible with the top down or even a hardtop with the windows rolled down, a scooter, or a bicycle, numerous other vehicles not ersatz cocoons those things are possible. Do you talk on the phone while driving? How about to passengers? All of those and many more can contribute to accidents, some deadly.

Aside from the common sense to ride motorcycles with eye protection, and I think even helmets with face shields as I most often did, just how far do you want The LAW to go to thwart every conceivable chance event from making you feel unsafe?

If it were "common sense" and if "common sense" were to be relied on, then it's "common sense" not to drink or be on drugs while driving. "common sense" isn't an argument - we don't live in that world. We live in the world where dick heads run red lights and a holes are on the phone and speeding and people die due to their stupidity, wrecklessness and ignorance.

If someone doesn't wear a helmet or a seat belt and is happy to take risks, they're likely happy to take risks with others safety as well...

Sorry, _blackhole_, your previous post deflected instead of debating. You have the right to view my words as "twisting" but that applies to any opposing view from the opposition as it is entirely subjective on its own. I'm expecting and try to deliver objectively supportable evidence.

I think helmet wearing is desirable and I have supported that view in word and deed my whole adult life. I simply also think it is a slippery slope when "desirable" is contemplated for "there oughta be a Law!" as far too many people do not consider objective reality and instead consider "whose ox is gored"... probably sometimes even me.
