Pros: fast, incredibly stabile, thousands of packages, support over 10 CPUs
Cons: not up to date

I use Debian 5.05 on my desktops.
It shows marvelous performance that goes beyond most free Linux distros; it is a good choice for desktop users with intermediate knowledge of Linux, who like stability and not so crazy for newest packages updates, or newest technologies.
That makes it not so suitable for multimedia and fun desktop users.

It supports most of professional applications written for UNIX like systems, but it's not headed towards enterprise philosophy.

Pros: Support for most Hardware, stable software, every windowmanager/desktop enviroment available
Cons: older software (not the latset stable releases)

I love this distro because it has full support for my old world macpro and has howto's for installing on less common hardware.
