Description: "On the behalf of the Sabayon Linux team, we're pleased to announce the immediate availability of Sabayon Linux 4. Bringing a more accessible, easy-to-use and fast way of doing business and home computing in a web 2.0 flavour is what we are going to achieve by the beginning of the new year. Sabayon Linux 4 offers an easy-to-use and attractive desktop coming with thousands of tools and applications, such as effortless connections to any kind of wireless network, web and multimedia applications (Java, Flash player, Google Earth, Picasa), browsers (Firefox, Opera, Konqueror), instant messaging clients (Pidgin, Kopete, aMsn), multimedia and playback tools (Elisa media centre, GeeXboX, VLC, SMPlayer), productivity tools (, AbiWord, GNU Calc, Kontact, Adobe Reader). Technically, Sabayon Linux 4 has been completely rebuilt on top of GCC 4.3, for i686 (32-bit) and x86_64 (64-bit) architecture."

Pros: very rich in repositories
Cons: very complex setup

It is very hard to setup an internet connexion unlike other
distros i.e Ubuntu. the setup need user input and it is not
easy for someone who is a beginner to linux.
graphics are good and so are the utilities.
in general it is everything easily accessible and logical with the exception of internet (adsl)setup.

Pros: Easy if overly complete install with all the codecs, drivers and apps you need.
Cons: Package manager and hardware detection need some polish.

KDE 3 as default desktop with Gnome, Xfce and others available.
My nVidia card was detected and the drivers installed but my LCD monitor was detected as a CRT and my resolution was limited to 1024x768 max. After a bit of research and an edit or the xorg.conf file everything was running smoothly.
No further setup was required to play cd's dvd's mp3's and every other media file I tried.
The rest of the included apps cover everything most would ever need or want, maybe too many. Office apps, development apps, graphic apps and multimedia apps galore.
The Spritz package manager is a bit counterintuitive to use. You need to left-click to highlight a package then right-click the checkbox to bring up a minimenu of options. For an uninstalled package the menu consist of just "Install".
Compiz works fine but doesn't play well with the KDE panel Pager applet, AFAIK this issue is still unresolved.
Sabayon 4 has a lot to like as well as a few rough spots that need smoothing. With all the eye candy this is a good distro to show your Windoze friends.

I tested the SabayonLinux 4.r2 as a LiveDVD
It was a very good distribution but as it is so big and build for explicit new hardware. So the LiveDVD is just for learning it to know but not suitable to carry your system always with you.
