Hi there,

This is a very good distro. A must have for anyone whois intrested in linux. You can compile your kernel too. That was amazing. Works good with my really old hardware.

Pros: Very Light Weight, Fast, Good Balance of Functionality
Cons: Kernel Source may be corrupt in some cases

I just finished installing Vector Linux on an older machine (PIII 333mhz, 128Meg Ram) and it ran much smoother than the Windows 98 that was on there previously. The distro is fairly straight forward to install and recognized almost all of the hardware. I also installed it on my laptop with similar ease. I like the idea of a light foot print. My only problem with Vector Linux is when I tried to build a modem driver to support my softmodem (the only piece of hardware that didn't work out of the box) I had trouble with the Kernel source. For whatever reason the distro seems to have a corrupt kernel with certain Makefile symbolic links pointing at non-existent files. Possibly I got a bad copy but it seems more likely that there are a few issues with the Kernel source that ships with the Vector distro. I downloaded a fresh kernel source from and the compile worked fine. Byte for byte, Vector is well worth the download.
