Description: After a less than impressive version 5 the newly released Fedora Core 6 is an outstanding move forward. Functioning as a desktop / workstation OS on a Toshiba laptop performance is good with Compiz wobbling the windows and generally looking awfully good. As always a little tuning is required to remove unneeded services, ndiswrapper was the only hope for wireless networking and a kernel rebuild is necessary for Toshiba suspend to ram to work but first impressions are very, very good.
One important fact though - FC6 is faster, more reliable and better looking than Windows Vista. Maybe, just maybe, this distro can open a few more eyes.

Pros: a lot
Cons: having a hard time with pxe & wine is hard to config

i got a new laptop over the past couple months and got stuck with vista. the wow effect they promised was there, but it was like "wow, it took this long to do that?" or "wow, they made it that complicated just to map a network hard drive?" so i installed fedora 6 and tried out ubuntu. the YUM install basically sold fedora. another thing that sold fedora was that i couldn't get to root. i'm new to linux so i haven't figured it out yet in terminal.

i saw a youtube video on what beryl can do and went and looked for it. when i found it and saw that it can be yum installed i did it. this has the wow effect that windows was hoping for. it's making the switch from windows to linux much nicer.

i've been really happy with fedora. can't wait until i can install fedora 7 but it's going to be a while because it is on DVD and i don't have a DVD burner, which leaves PXE installing.
