Description: "We now have the pleasure to announce the immediate availability of the final aptosid 2011-03 'Ponos' release. New features are in particular kernel 3.1 and numerous integration and stabilisation fixes. Special focus has been cast upon improving the system compatibility with new hardware platforms and various corner cases. Kernel 3.1 doesn't only improve and stabilise hardware support for newer devices, it also improves latency and general system performance, particularly vastly improved I/O scheduling for LVM and MDADM on SSDs. Among the new features are initial Xen dom0 and PCI passthrough support as well as nested virtualization for KVM on Intel and AMD CPUs."

Pros: clean debian custom sid, very stable, hard disk very quick installation
Cons: needs some basic knowledg)e of debian/linux (console recommended/necessary)

i am very surprised to notice there was no review of this excellent os at linuxquestions

Aptosid (speaking of latest available 2011-03) is a debian-sid cutomized version with
a full respect of Debian Social Contract (DFSG)

see the official announce here :

it comes in several "flavors", mostly kde-light, xfce, kde-full, with versions for i686 AND amd-64 architectures

isos are iso-hybrid wich makes very easy to write to usb keys using a single command line

an online multi-language manual gives extended informations on how to deal with live-mode,
hard-disk installation, and full administration

link here :

once started in live mode, you are offered several installation procedures : hard disk install, usb-install (with persistence)

on a recent computer boot is less than a minute, install less than 5 minutes

Aptosid is coming with a lot of software and is a fully usable and customisable environment, with a large hardware recognition. It is fast, reliable and stable... very stable.

give it a try !
