I think this book is absolutely horrible. It seems like the authors have rarely even used UNIX and don't know what they are talking about. There is a lot of information that is wrong in this book. One thing I noticed is that they mention that SunOS was based on System V and Solaris on BSD when really it is the other way around. They also mention UNIX being for people who can afford servers that cost thousands of dollars, and even thought UNIX is meant for servers, it is also used very commonly for desktop use now as well. It also seems like they talk about almost all UNIX OSs as being expensive proprietary systems and Linux and the Open Source Movement are something new and amazing, yet the latest edition was published in 2004, which shows that maybe the authors are still stuck in the early to mid 90s.
