Hello! I have an old computer that runs Zenwalk 5.2 pretty well, and it is intended for storage of my podcast episode files and the music that is associated with it. I have no problems with networking it, but am wondering if anyone has attempted setting up Zenwalk as a media server. I can access all files on this computer through my Sabayon/Slackware desktop(s), and through the other computer also running Zenwalk. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience in "streaming" software to install on this machine?

It is an AMD K6/2 500 processor with 168M of memory, and 200 or so Gb of storage space. No need to do video, just audio.

If you just want to have access to your files, you can use nfs, but you say that you already do that. If you want to do it from anywhere on the internet, not just your home network, I guess a simple solution would be to install apache and point it to your media directory (maybe also password protect it in apache).

For streaming, I have no experience myself, but I hear icecast works fine: http://www.icecast.org/

I hadn't quite gotten as far as Apache yet, but I agree that it could possibly be a good thought. Thank you. As far as Icecast, I'm weighing that one carefully. Any other ideas would be welcome.
