How to install axel

I tried to install 'axel', a simple small download manager package, through xnetpkg of my otherwise nicely working Zenwalk installation. However, this package was not found in the default repositories. I can download the axel.txz from pkgs.org (http://pkgs.org/download/axel) and install it with installpkg command, but how can I install it through Zen package manager (netpkg, xnetpkg) so that it is properly detected and updated in future? Thanks.

Hi,

I have added axel to the extra packages, it's now available via netpkg :)

if it needs updating and I don't notice it, just write me a reminder ...

Thanks. Otherwise what is the best way to install packages from their homepages?

if you already have slackware + zenwalk + alienbob repositories activated in xnetpkg : you already have a lot to play with.

For example, you can add Slackonly repository :

http://packages.slackonly.com/pub/pa...urrent-x86_64/
(just an exemple : Slackware community is large)

just copy/paste the URL in the URL bar of netpkg, and click on the yellow star to bookmark it. Then you can either activate/deactivate it.

xnetpkg will merge all repositories into one main categorized package tree.

(and netpkg CLI will automatically add the new xnetpkg bookmark to the list of available mirrors (netpkg cli is for rescue/quick dep install, so it queries only one repos at the time).

If you don't find a package on the whole slack community : ask here, maybe I will build one for you if it doesn't take days of trouble)

Cheers
