How to install.

Okay, I have downloaded Zenwalk 7.0. Made the Live CD, booted from CD and have gotten the GUI title screen = Linux "It just works". Using a Dell 1545, 4gb RAM, 64bit processor, So how do we get it installed? Reading the livecd pdf file really doesn't help when you don't know what shell commands mean or do. Is there any install/setup files to execute? At some point it asked for Root password - don't know what that is either. I did not make one.

This link does not give the correct Root password. ZenLive does not work, neither zenlive or leaving the password blank, response comes back as Incorrect Password....try again.

Okay, found the password and got it installed w/GUI. Wired connection worked fine and the wireless always errored: INVALID PASSWORD or PASSPHRASE. Even downloaded drivers for Broadcom wireless and no improvements. So I reformatted the drive to remove ZENWALK. At this time I will not use this OS; for this newbie it is not easy to get the wireless connected. I could not find where I could verify what driver was being used. The router is NetGear, wgr614v9, wpa_wpa2-psk (password) - there is not a selection that matches the router. For what I know; not a lot of linux stuff, some OS do match and I was able to figure it out.

Thank you Hoodooman! Your link did have the information I needed when I looked deep. I guess I'm like many newbies, we like it easy and must take the time to read fully all links to get what is needed, if we can understand it.

Thank you Hoodooman; I have been using Mint 11 for some time now. Awhile back I tried to install the Slackware verison and met with the same sorta issues. Since I don't understand terminal commands syntax I was not able to proceed pass the basic install. If it doesn't install with a GUI/desktop I don't seem to get very far.

Again, Thank You for your help.
Sincerely,
John

Yes, it is a pity, once I tried to install Zenwalk on my laptop, it was just impossible.

Salix was OK, but unstable : session was disconnecting after a while, so I installed Mandriva which worked fine, and now I've got Fedora.

Some distributions work fine, some other not, especially on laptops which are capricious.[COLOR="Silver"]
