Talking Impressed, coming from Suse 9.2 to Yoper 2.1

Wow,

I never thought linux could be so easy! I started using linux with Suse 8.2, and gradually progressed to 9.2 (always professional editions).

What always annoyed me about Suse was the trouble I had with Nvidia drivers, at that stage I couldn't connect to the internet so couldn't use the online update, and the video players, crippled so that I could basically play nothing! What was the point of having them?

Just recently I came across Yoper; "Linux, refined" I am so so so impressed. It set up my video card flawlessly, zero hassles! Came with drivers, uses Sax2 (from Suse!) and, kaffeine works on all my videos and dvds! KDE looks and feels much better than Suse (I don't know what suse does to those menus but it's not user friendly at all)

Only thing now is finding where to get latex, guess I have to move my computer into my dad's office to connect up to Synaptic. If it works as well as I'm anticipating, I may have found my new distribution.

Thanks for an amazing distribution

Dave.

Glad you like it
At the moment, 2.1 is fairly static - we are working on a new version - with some improvements to the install etc.
But 2.1 is a good version - I use it on one of my machines ( the others run various test versions).

Yoper is nice. I just came from yoper 2.1 to suse 9.3 lol. I do like yoper my self but the problems I had with yoper was with apt-get upgrade it always locked up and wine. Every time I had to reboot or log off I always had to do chmod 700 wine/server blah blah to be able to run wine as user and not root. Also I had problems with java for Limewire and the new version of openoffice. They could never find where I had my java installed. Also the apps in yoper are outdated, very much with videocards. I own a 6800gt and yoper only has up to 5950ultra.... But besides that yoper was awsome. When 2.2 comes out I might go back to it but for now i'm using suse 9.3. Just now I need to find out how to get source apps to install in suse 9.3 since some how I dont have a gcc......

I would install the graphics driver direct from Nvidia. I do that anyway as a matter of course with any distro - including yoper. The ones with 2.1 and 2.2 are the 6xxx drivers iirc, so I would always change to the later 7 series ones - but its handy to have a driver in the iso to get started with. The info on how to do it is in the wiki or I can always be contacted here, in the Yoper irc channel most evenings (UK time) or via the PM system in the Yoper forums if anyone gets stuck on that.
The java issue has been the bane of my life at times! It will be sorted in 2.2. In the meantime, there are ways to get java working - at least for the web. Not sure about Limewire - I think it should work though - but may need a symlink if Limewire looks in a specific place. I know this has been mentioned in the forum over on yoper.com - but I dont think it was ever resolved
