It uses rpm packages.

Yoper uses rpm as the format of its packages, but apt-get for managing them. This causes some confusion, like a post I just read elsewhere claiming Yoper is based on Debian, which is not true...
This system was pioneered by Conectiva who developed apt-for-rpm, and it is also used on Fedora (alongside yum), and probably a few other distros I can't think of at the moment.

I use Synaptic if things are in the Yoper main repository, but configure/make them from scratch if they aren't. I figure that that way, things are still optimized for i686 and I don't have to worry about assumptions being made on distribution-specific locations.

Can I install Yum on Yoper, and is the Yoper Repository compatible with Yum?

Also does the Yoper repository contain XFCE?
