and KDE is a better DE all around. and in yoper it has one of the best implementations of any distro.
core is without anything, jsut pure yoper. dont download that.

Use Core as a download if you want to compile something like Fluxbox / XFCE and use that. I believe thats what its for? (If I'm not mistaken.). Also, if you want a command line type of server box - core is best. KDE / Gnome + Extra apps take up most of the *other* space from Core.

ya, tahts what core is for. ive never tried it, im not sure if it has X though.
also, dont install xfce from apt if you wnat to go that route. xfce made a new graphical installer taht you can use on their site, its also a more updated version and it actually works.

Me too.
I was just there and it is still down. So either it's gone for good, or they are working on it. The last thing they need is a server that only half works after such a long delay, so I'd rather just wait it out. I'm sure they running into some issues with this, it's just the nature of the beast. And I presume they have a lot of 'stuff' to move over to the new server, sometimes it goes well, other times it doesn't, which causes more delays.
At this point what's needed most is a progress report on what's happening with the new server, like once a day would be fine. It would make it a lot easier to 'keep the faith'.
Until it is back in operation, I'll just keep using Mandrake 10.1, when the new version 2.2 of Yoper is out, then I'll use that.

Yes, dont forget the new servers are being installed in the US, by people that live in New Zealand...its a little tricky, logistically speaking, the new servers will be great, no more outages..and version 2.2 is going through final compilation right now.

Well, I hope they bought servers on steroids.
The traffic that's going to hit yoper.com when it comes back up will be like dropping a nuclear weapon on Backwater Town, NW. *lol*
I can't wait though.
Yoper is a wonderful distribution. I've been through about ten others since yoper.com went down and there was talk that it wasn't coming back. I didn't want to accept it, but I had to explore other options, *just in case*.
But I'm definitely excited and can't wait for Yoper to come back. : )

It isn't back yet, so I still would not count on it too much..... I will believe it when I see it The site had not been updated for over 3 weeks and now the site has been down for almost a week.... looks dead to me

But distro exists and you can use it, alister. I can't understand why using a distro depends on if it's site is up or down... What so disturbs you to install it? Packages you afraid will be not updated anymore? Install from source or, better, learn how to make rpms and help a community.
All you guys just posting here how not ok is that Yoper's servers are down and how you don't count on it... Try to understand: you have no rights for it. Someone (not you) paying a real money (and it's not few bucks and even not few hundreds) to provide you a distro and service. Someone else working hard to build a distro. Can't you just understand it? They have a life, they have families, job and loads of things to do, exactly like you. They don't debt to you, they doing you a favor and you need to be patient and wait. And if anyone think they must do it, just buy you a windoze copy, install it and then you can talk to support team with "you must keep your servers up" and "why you didn't provide an update this month".

I find people are impatient, not because they cant get updates - they dunno where the community will head.
I run the Core version of Yoper - since it has been relatively "nice" to me, :P, but you get what you pay for!
It is a community driven OS! The community must contribute or it will not exist. If you pay for your community, i.e. Redhat Enterprise or SuSE / Novell, then yes, gripe about it to them.
But its up to you guys to help out the community - heck, put up a temporary mirror if you want :P
I haven't found the wait to be bad - because I know they are expiriencing downtime. It is as simple as that. File transfers don't like eachother, or something isn't configuring properly - all issues that are possible. But I know they won't just "stop" and throw in the towel for that reason. So don't think they've "left" you.
And even then, if that IS the case (Which it isnt), would we as a community, be prepared to take the project and work on it ourselves and restart it? Ask yourselves that before you gripe about time issues.

If I got anybody miffed over my previous post, it wasn't my intention.
I DO still use Yoper. Well... I did until my desktop turned in its resignation a few days ago. And I check the site and forums for status updates nearly every day.
All I meant was that it's nice to have a home base.
