dual booting Yoper and windows XP
I was wondering if anyone knows how I can set my computer up to boot up Yoper and windows XP.
I am a relatively new linux user and am still learning about.I would prefer to use lilo to do this.
Also if it is possible to shrink my yoper partition and install windows xp without destroying anything, that would be awesome. If not I can always do it from scratch.

I've never used Yoper before, so I can't really recommend either way. As for Linux in general, just go for it. The Yoper installer may give you options about saving your windows partition, but it may not. It should give you a chance to bail out should you change your mind half-way. If you don't mind starting from scratch, that might be the best way to go. Its definately worth a shot thought, you won't regret it.
Also, I'm not sure about Yoper, but I know there are other distros out there that can be more newbie friendly such as Fedora Core 3 and Debian (although I've never used Debian, just FC3 and its very nice).
Just have fun with it. It may be tricky at first but you'll learn so much more than you'd expect.
Good Luck!

I recently set up my box at home to do this. Windows XP was already installed, and all I had to do was boot off the Yoper install CD. It takes you through everything very nicely. It uses qtparted to partition your hard drive, and I ended up shrinking the NTFS partition for Windows to make some necessary space. Then I just continued the install, which took like maybe 20 min (30 min tops), and everything was working on the first try. It uses lilo, and Windows still runs err...how's it's supposed to. Haven't had any problems (yet, hopefully never) due to the resizing of the NTFS partition. It's really a breeze, and I encourage you to try it! (Just make sure you've got Windows installed first, I've heard horror stories from people who install Linux first).

I would think that simply shrinking the Windows partition would harm the system; wouldn't you delete any data?
If it's as easy as you make it sound, maybe even I will give it a try...

Well, the Windows partition wasn't full so there was space that wasn't being used, and I didn't notice any missing data either. I'm not exactly sure how qtparted works, but it seems to have done a stellar job
