CD drives don't work after install is done.
I really liked what I saw, until I put in an audio cd, and then afterwards, a data cd.... my CD-R and CD-RW both didn't work after yoper loaded... cd-r worked fine to do the install, and works fine with SuSe, Mandrake, and Fedora... but like you all, I'm still searching for the perfect disto.... (for a newbie who has learned to live with Windows....)

What do you mean "it doesn't work"? Chances are Yoper doesn't have an automounter running, so you put the CD in, and the system simply doesn't mount it. If you have KDE installed, you should be able to right-click the device icons on the desktop and select "Mount" to mount the CD inserted. Then you'll be able to access its contents.
Windows does this "automagically" so you may not be used to the fact that you need to mount and unmount filesystems in order to use them.

I've noticed in Yoper that if I put a CD in, then go to the CD-Rom through Konqueror, it freezes the CD now and then. It won't let me mount it because it's already mounted, and I can't umount it because it's busy. And when I ls /mnt/cdrom, I get nothing.
However, if I click the CDROM icon on the desktop instead, it mounts properly and everything works well. Also if I just type 'mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom' in the shell, everything is fine afterward.
I'll bring this to the attention of the development team at Yoper today.
I hope this solves your problem, reply to this forum if not.

Thanks but no thanks
Right clicked desktop icon, was already mounted. Opened CD player for audio, wouldn't play music, also wouldn't open data CD. Might be my hardware.... I am using a Digital Equipment Corporation PC, P-II 300/ 320MB ram, Smart & Friendly CD burner, Sony reader... also wouldn't format a floppy, but I'm moving on to the next distro.... so far, (in mho) , Fedora or SuSe works better for me, but still looking for the BEST distro with the fewest glitches.......
