wireless won't connect

Found the network manager, and scanning shows a signal to connect to; and it does connect for a brief half minute, but then disconnects. I believe the problem is that to stay connected, you have to click ok on a guest screen, after which you get access for two hours -- and this works from same laptop, but using different OS [suse].
What would be causing VL to not bring up that permission screen, which comes up readily on other OS?

What version of Vector?

My VL7 STD Gold uses Wicd, not Network Manager.

Thank you Rokytnji, and will try the lspci -knn at first opportunity. I use VL 7.0 SOHO.
The 2 hour guest use has to do with the internet available being at a local public co-op where the customers can use the wifi only after:
initiating firefox [or similar] which then identifies the local wifi source and connects, but what gets is a screen which requests users of this wifi to read and click accept to an agreement on use; only after so clicking will your access to internet through this coop server be activated for two hours.

If screen with agreement doesn't come up -- which is what happens in my case and only on VL and no problem with suse -- then can't click acceptance and the initial firefox connection is cut off.

Ok, I get what you mean now. Mine is a Wireless Desktop Computer in my Motorcycle Shop using my own Internet Service Provider (ISP) and my own wireless modem with wpa encrypted wireless. So I have no way to test. Picking up the Desktop,CRT,Keyboard,Mouse, and going to Dairy Queen (free wifi there) is not a option for me.

So I am not sure how much I can help you on this since I have no way to test this out.

The problem sounds like one of a kind though, but more members there that might have run into thires.

Edit: Also, are you using Wicd? I mention this because My netbooks use AntiX and wicd to connect to free wifi hotspots just fine.
Sometimes preferences in Wicd need adjusting on what kind of encryption the wireless is using eg:wep,wpa,wpa2-Leap. It depends on
what kind of signal the free wifi is using.

Wicd is more of a manual type of controller versus Network Manager which is a totally different connection application.
