Will Slackwae *.tgz install on Vectorlinux?

I know that VL has its roots in Slackware and I've heard/read that VL is faster than slackware.

Is this because the VL packages are somehow different from the vanilla slackware packages?

Would Slackware packages install on a VL system? For instance the KDE packages?

If you are talking about VL 5 soho or vl 5.1 you can install packages from Slackware 10.1 repositoris. But, whenever the packages are available in vl repositories you should take them from there as those take care of dependencies via the software vlapt which is included with the distribution.

As far as speed is concerned the vl standard edition might be faster because it is using a lighweight desktop manager but SOHO which is using kde by default doesn't seem faster to me.

In my opinion VL is a good entry to someone wanting to use a Slackware based distro, as VL includes some tools which makes it easier for a newbie to configure it's environnement. For myself I like better Slackware as it includes more software and therefore less things to install later.
